About

About Breef

Breef is a note-taking and study app for people who bring their own material. It’s run by G. Rizzo, an individual based in Italy, paid for by its Pro plan, and built so that your notes stay yours.

What Breef is

Breef is where you write down what you learn from your courses, books, papers and lectures, with your ideas linked as you go. Notes format as you type, link to each other with [[double brackets]], and gather into projects and subjects. Over time they become one map of everything you know, which Breef calls Knowledge.

Each note comes back for review a day after you write it, then less and less often each time you remember it, with questions written from it. Lectures can be recorded and written up into notes, PDFs and Word files turned into linked notes, and your notes asked questions in your own words. Breef runs in the browser, in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German.

Why it exists

Learning tends to scatter: notes in one app, highlights in another, flashcards in a third, and nothing that ties them together. A term later, the notes sit in a folder nobody opens, and most of what was in them is gone.

Breef starts from the opposite idea: understanding isn’t storing facts, it’s seeing how they connect, and remembering takes coming back to them. So the writing, the linking and the reviewing happen in one place, and the reviews come from the notes you already took, not from a second set of cards you have to make.

Who runs it, and how it’s built

Breef is run by G. Rizzo, an individual based in Italy, who is also the data controller named in the privacy policy. Questions about Breef, your account or your data go to support@breef.app.

Breef is a web app: it runs in any modern browser on a computer or a phone, and can be installed from there as an app, with nothing to download. Everything these pages say about Breef is what it does today, down to the numbers: reviews after 1, 3, 7, 21, 60 and 120 days, recordings of up to 90 minutes, and the allowances below.

How it’s paid for

Writing, linking, searching and reviewing your notes are free, and stay free. What costs money to run, the AI features and file storage, comes with monthly allowances on the free plan: 2 hours of voice notes, 10 quizzes, 10 questions to your notes, 3 looks for missing topics, 50 PDF pages and 250 MB of files.

Pro, at €6 a month or €48 a year plus VAT, raises them: 30 hours of voice notes, 2,000 PDF pages, 10 GB of files, and quizzes, questions and missing topics as much as you like. Pro is sold through Polar, the merchant of record, which takes the payment and handles taxes and invoices, so Breef never sees your card. Pro is what pays for the free plan: there are no ads on any plan, and you can cancel at any time.

Your data

Your notes are private unless you share one yourself. They’re never sold, used for advertising or used to train AI models, by Breef or by the providers it works with. Your account and everything in it is stored in the EU.

Voice notes are transcribed as you record and the audio is never kept. Settings › Export notes gives you every note back as Markdown files whenever you like, and deleting your account deletes what’s in it. The privacy policy lists every provider Breef uses and what each one does.
